Unfortunately, animated gifs don't work in Outlook. All you'll see of an animated gif in an Outlook client is the first frame of the gif. While that's a significant limitation (especially for B2B marketers, who usually have a larger percentage of Outlook users than B2C marketers), there is a work-around. Just create a first frame that also works as a static image.
Video marketing is the growing trend. This is completely true. But, is it really effective? Of course. A company named Mint, garnered a lot of attention (approximately 700k YouTube views), and boost in sales using an incredible explainer video “Personal Finance Management With Mint – The Best Free Way to Manage Your Money”. Their video did not provide the advantage of their services, instead they beautifully explained the need of their services in a customer’s life. This is a perfect example of showing how a simple 1 or 2 minute video can change a customer’s perspective towards your brand. Your business can use similar ideas and provide value using an incredible explainer videos created by professionals such as FWA MARKETING, and gain a lot of traffic as well as profits.

Social video is now such an important tool to modern marketing that my clients keep asking for more. The results really speak for themselves. Some email marketers have also used "video gifs" as fallbacks for HTML5 videos. Unfortunately, while these will play on most email clients, the images are huge (think megabytes, not kb). The image quality is also fairly low, which is why while a few retailers tried these around 2008/2009, they’re rarely seen now. Other marketers have had some success with embedding YouTube videos in Gmail, but that's not a widely used tactic anymore.
The most underutilized space on YouTube is the description below the video where you can describe your service and put in your URL that can be clicked through. Add a call to action at the end of the video; for example, “If you liked this video, please click through my link below to find more information.” This is a great way to increase engagement. Also add the Annotations feature from YouTube to create links in the videos. This is very powerful.

The popularity of video also means that more content at the top of the funnel has to be in video format. In B2C it’s almost obvious. But B2B-people are people, too. Video content is more likely to keep the audience in the comfort zone, and they will not engage in system 2 thinking. System 1 autopilot mental state should lead to less critical thinking, less friction, and more conversions.

Also, even if HTML5 videos can be viewed by more and more email users, there’s still going to be a significant group of users who can’t view embedded videos. Hopefully in a few years this group will be less than 10% for users, but we have to do our email marketing with the technology we have now. Because of that, we need to create an alternative for everyone who can’t see the videos. Fortunately, there's a great alternative to embedded videos. It's been widely tested, too.
